Yahoo! Geo cities won’t be available after 26^th October and it has informed its refugees to set up a new online homes. Yahoo! purchased this web hosting services for $3 billion at the height of dot- com boom. Initially it offered web hosting for just $5 for the first 12 months. Yahoo! Has taken this decision as a part of cost cutting measure it has helped yahoo in more than triple its net profit despite a 12 percent decline in revenue in its third quarter. One of the internet pioneer said in his message to Geocities site that “However, we have decided to focus on helping our customers explore and build relationships online in other ways”. Yahoo! Soared in its net profit over 244 percent in the quarter to $186 million or 13 cents per share, from $54 million or four cents per share. The performance was better than the expected because of the large cost cutting measures that were taken by Carol Bartz being named in January to replace Yahoo! Co founder jerry Yang as chief executive.
